Replacing Missing Teeth is Important for Maintaining Good Oral Health
A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. Replacing missing teeth is important for maintaining good oral health and healthy smile .Most dentures are constructed with acrylic resins along with some composite materials. There are two major types of dentures :
1. Complete dentures it may be conventional (made after the removal of the teeth and the healing of the gums, usually taking 4 to 6 weeks.) or immediate (dentures are made in advance and are placed immediately after the teeth are removed).
2. Partial dentures- replace one or more, but less than all of the natural teeth and associated structures of the arch.
Procedure
Dentures are specifically made for each patients unique anatomy. Some appointments are required to develop a working model of the final product. Following 1-2 weeks of work, the patient receives a new set of teeth. It is normal to experience increased saliva flow, some soreness, and possible speech and chewing difficulty, however this will subside as your muscles and tissues get used to the new dentures.
Cleaning of dentures dentures should be removed and brushed at least once per day with a denture brush and cleanser.
Regular checkups are encouraged in order to track changing conditions in the mouth.
